Education authorities in the Ashanti Region have begun a process to verify two hundred and 87 new teachers seeking an appointment with the Ghana Education Service (GES).
The shortlisted teachers over the weekend have been meeting auditors of the regional education directorate where their certificates and other relevant documents are being audited.
Nhyira FM sources suggest the majority of the teachers would be posted to Amansie Central and West, Bosome Freho and other parts of the 30 districts in the Ashanti region where English8, Science and Mathematics teachers are in short supply.
Regional Education Director, Mary Owusu Achiaw, has been addressing the new recruits and advising them to accept postings to where their services would be needed most.
According to her, teaching is a calling, adding it’s not by chance that the under listed applicants have been shortlisted.
The new director is known for her strict monitoring and supervision which ensured heads of second cycle schools charge only approved school fees.
Last year, she introduced an arrangement which ensured all staff of GES at both district and regional levels supervised the West African Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
