Kweku Baako disputes figures of Adenta/Madina Highway road crash victims

Editor-in-chief of the New Crusading Guide newspaper Abdul Malik Kweku Baako says official reports from the Motor Transport and Traffic Directorate (MTTD) reveals that 24 persons have lost their lives on the Madina-Adenta Highway and not 192 as some reports claim.

There have been several conflicting figures about the number of lives that have been lost on the stretch but Baako says official reports indicate 24 have died with 164 others injured.

The latest victim on the road that is described as a death trap is a 22-year old first-year student of the West Africa Senior High School (WASS) who was attempting to cross the highway to campus but was knocked down and killed on Thursday, November 8, 2018.

The incident sparked a spontaneous protest again on the highway by residents in the area.

The residents blocked the highway as part of the protest, burned tyres and made it impossible for vehicles to and from Aburi to use the highway.

The police responded to control the protesters but had a hard time following a clash with the protesters.

The Ministry of Road and Highway responding to the issue said work will begin a few weeks to complete the bridges to avoid any more deaths.

Mr. Baako who was speaking on Newsfile on Joy News also cautioned Politicians not to politicize the issue but rather find an immediate solution to this road carnage.
