Homosexuality will remain criminalized; President Akufo-Addo assures clergy

The President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has categorically stated that his government will not change our laws to legalise same-sex marriages.

Speaking on Thursday, 9th August, 2018, at the 2018 Synod of the Global Evangelical Church, The President stated:

“And, let me assure that this Government has no plans to change the law on same-sex marriage. We have no authority, and we will not seek any authority to do so.”

This brings some conclusion to rumours that the Akufo-Addo government was exploring ways to legalize same sex marriage and homosexuality laws.

A 2017 interview by President Akufo-Addo on Aljazeera had the president making remarks about the eventuality of gay laws getting changed in the country.
