Disgruntled flagbearer of the All People’s Congress Hassan Ayariga says the appointment of Charlotte Osei as chairperson of the electoral commission is President John Mahama’s worst mistake.
“What did Charlotte Osei do when she was head of the NCCE? She failed in everything she did there, and now she has been appointed chairperson of electoral commission; and she has the guts to disqualify me for what she failed to educate us on.
“In fact, Mr President, I look you in the face and tell you that her appointment is the worst mistake so far,” angry Ayariga told a news conference in Accra Friday.
He said the EC chair is targeting him unfairly, citing the claim by Mrs Osei that “Hassan Ayariga will not win the elections” during an address in the UK.
According to him, inasmuch as he would want to contest his disqualification in court, he would not want to do anything to frustrate the upcoming polls.
Ayariga was disqualified by the Electoral Commission again after the Supreme Court had ordered that some 13 disqualified presidential candidates be given the opportunity to correct the errors on their nomination forms.
He and seven others were rejected on Wednesday after the chairperson of the election management body said subscribers on their list did not meet the requirement by law.
Ghana goes to the polls on December 7, to elect a president and Parliamentarians.
President Mahama and the NPP’s Nana Akufo-Addo are the frontrunners in the polls watchers expect to be close.
