Barely a month ago, I shared a story of a young Ghanaian footballer who reportedly collapsed and died in Russia whiles training on a field.
The player, Joe Mensah, a Feyenoord Academy product, traveled to Russia to try and secure professional contract with club in the European country.
But whiles training on the day of his arrival in Moscow, he collapsed and died.
The 60-year-old mother of the footballer, Winifred Ayelle Aryee, who for the past months had restless nights doubting the demise of her son, contacted me to help establish whether or not her son had actually died.
After four months of media campaigns, writing petitions and help-sourcing from the Ghanaian community in Russia, the body of the footballer has finally been brought down home.
The mother says her heart is at peace now, even though her only son will be buried tomorrow.
Special thanks to my brother Dan Kweku Yeboah who help with the media campaign, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Shirley Ayorkor Botchway who worked assiduously to ensure the body was brought back to Ghana.
RIP Joe Mensah!
